Did you know we have quite a few pages on our site all about nutrition? A large part of success in the gym has to do with what you do OUTSIDE of the gym.
The food you eat not only gives you energy, but provides the critical nutrients to help your muscles recover. Some foods, even good foods, are better at this than others. There is much more to watching what you eat beyond counting calories.
We have a great resource at the gym, and her name is Annie Henness. She is a registered dietetic technician with an associates degree in science nutrition and foods. She is an avid runner on weekends when she can carve out time from her three kids, husband and dog. She works for Sutter Amador Hospital in the food and nutritional services department and helps lead the Diabettes awareness classes once a month in the county. She will be authoring blog posts from time to time for your enjoyment and dietary needs. You can find her page from the home page, under the Nutrition section- Annie’s Corner.
Right now, if you follow the link above to her page, there is a great article from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Here is a small taste of this great article, you don’t want to miss it!
“As a sports dietitian, one of the most common questions I get is “What should I eat before and after a workout?”
Sometimes the answer depends more on the athlete and his specific activity, but there are some common truths that apply for pre and post workout nutrition, whether you’re a weekend warrior or a seasoned veteran.”
Go ahead and click over to the page and be ready to take notes on all the great info!
